Bigger government is not easily hidden. Lubbock City Hall under Lee Ann Dumbauld with blessing of Lubbock City Council have now expanded city bureaucracy to two bank buildings.
1500 Broadway Partners, front group for McDougal Properties, owns Wells Fargo Bank Building. City Council recently rented 6th Floor for Lubbock Visitors/LEDA/etc. It houses 36 employees. The cost to taxpayers is $155,000 plus utilities and salaries. It's a 10 year lease that will cost $1.5 million plus salaries and utilities. It's a sweetheart deal.
Just last week city cut another deal to lease space owned by John Wilkerson in Compass Bank Building 3 blocks from city hall on 10th St. That deal is $232,000 a year for 10 years with another 5 year option. A few small departments will be housed there. That's a $2.3 MILLION deal for 10 years plus utilities and salaries.
McDougal Properties and Wilkerson Properties are cleaning up on "bigger government" and it's leases.
The above two leases will cost taxpayers over $7,300 a WEEK for 10 years not counting salaries or utility bills.
Can we really afford Tom Martin/Paul Beane "sweetheart deals" at that price? NOTE: All the above figures come from city council documents that all media and citizens can view when "back up agenda" documents are posted on city website prior to city council meetings.
