We should appear strong, but spending money on maintaining our "empire" when we have problems here at home is utterly ridiculous!

What empire? Iraq and Afghanistan will go their own way and the only thing we can be sure of is that it will not be our way. Both Afghanistan and Iraq have leaders that are more closely connected to Iran than to us. We are just the saps who supply troops and money.
Our empire consists of Guam and Puerto Rico. Which brings up the question, what do you think about P.R. statehood?
